Used for initial sea plane rating. The Piper Cub is one of the most popular light aircraft ever manufactured. This is a aircraft used extensively as bush planes. They are ideal for short distances with the ability to take off and land in short distances. They also are benefitted by being able to fly at a very slow airspeed making them an ideal training aircraft. These airplanes seldom exceed 100mph and can fly around at speeds as low as 35mph. They can take off into sufficient headwinds with such lift as to make a nearly vertical take off. Flying a Piper Cub is considered by most pilots a pure joy. This particular J3 Cub had only rudimentary flight instruments and no avionics. It was necessary for to stand on one of the pontoons and hand crank the prop from behind to start the engine. They are constructed from a welded steel frame covered with fabric.
